Finding Beauty in the Chaos of Everyday Life

My intention was to publish a new post every Tuesday, like clockwork.

Each week, I imagined writing about my ordinary Tuesday—how I slowed down, appreciated the little moments, and found beauty in everyday life.

Then I realized something.

If I forced myself to write every Tuesday simply because it was Tuesday, I might miss the whole point.

Today isn’t an ordinary Tuesday.

In fact, it’s Thursday.

I’m off work because I had a doctor’s appointment this morning. Afterward, I spent an embarrassing amount of time wrestling with WordPress, trying to make this website match the vision I’d been carrying around in my head.

I wish I could tell you the day unfolded exactly the way I’d imagined when I started this blog.

I wish I could say I woke to the smell of my dad’s cappuccino, lingered over my coffee, talked with my mom about her childhood, and soaked in every quiet moment before the day began.

But that’s not what happened.

My alarm should have gone off much earlier than it did.

Instead, I woke up at 6:45 for an 8:00 doctor’s appointment.

I hurried to wake Amy so she could have breakfast with Papa, threw on clothes that probably looked one step above pajamas, skipped my shower, gulped down my coffee, and rushed out the door.

It wasn’t peaceful.

It wasn’t picturesque.

It certainly wasn’t the kind of morning I imagined writing about on a blog called Ordinary Tuesdays.

But somewhere between racing out the door and trying to untangle website settings, I started wondering if I’d misunderstood the ordinary.

Maybe the ordinary isn’t slow.

Maybe it isn’t quiet.

Maybe it isn’t carefully curated moments of gratitude.

Maybe it’s exactly this.

The rushed mornings.

The coffee we drink too quickly.

The doctor appointments.

The projects that refuse to cooperate.

The days that don’t unfold according to plan.

Those moments belong to our lives just as much as sunsets and family dinners do.

If this blog is going to be honest, then it has to make room for all of it.

Because one day, I have a feeling I’ll miss even these hurried Thursdays.

And maybe that’s what Ordinary Tuesdays has been about all along.

Not perfect days.

Just the life that’s happening while we’re busy trying to make it look like something else.
